UBD KILLING MY BEST FRIENDS WEDDING

My friend has booked UBD Chancellor Hall for her wedding in August 2008 since MAY 2007 last year already. Preparations for her wedding have been made well in advanced (of course since she has been with her guy since 2002… hehe). Gratefully, on 15th NOVEMBER 2007, she received a reply letter from UBD confirming the availability of her booking.
As any bride would know, she was hugely relieved to have UBD Chancellor Hall booked for her wedding. However, in FEBRUARY 2008, she was horrified to learn that her booking for Chancellor Hall was simply CANCELLED!!! Without any formal notification, her booking was ERASED!! She found out about this only through a friend who was casually re-checking her booking. Her friend was also greatly shocked and immediately informed her.
Her booking was rudely replaced by a new booking made by the assistant ECA Officer (UBD staff) his daughter is getting married the same day as my friend, unfortunately. As far as we know, its first come first serve, when booking the UBD Chancellor Hall. This UBD staff declared to my friend that he has advantage and priority over the hall all because he is UBD staff. My friend has been asked to change her wedding date/venue just because this man works in UBD, even though she has booked the hall 15 months prior to her wedding date.
IS THIS FAIR??
She then wrote a second letter for a reconfirmation of her booking (she still hasn’t been rejected formally by letter anyway) BUT UBD has left her hanging until now, even though she also tried calling so many times.
All venues are fully booked for AUGUST 2008. This man who has kicked her off the booking records shows absolutely no remorse for what he’s done to MY FRIEND! The registrar also seems to take NO form of control over this situation when in fact he’s the one who has messed up this matter. She has even seen the Vice Chancellor regarding this matter where he has agreed that she should rightfully have the Hall…BUT his staff under him seems to not be following his orders. What kind of management is that??????????????????????????????????????????????
SO BRUNEI, SUPPORT HER!
Should she be the one to be looking for a new venue??? Have you heard any rule saying UBD staff has priority on having to rent the Chancellor Hall for PERSONAL USE???
We would hate if this were to happen to anyone else. She has been so unfairly treated it makes us sick. Her invitation cards are forced to be on hold because of this matter. Her poor parents, I feel terrible that they have to go through this illogical, unreasonable, uncompromising issue. I don’t know what will happen next.
So people, if you want to rent the Chancellor Hall for any wedding, don’t count on it as there are UNCLEARED, HIDDEN RULES awaiting you…… and what’s the use if you book way in advanced and a ‘SELFISH’ UBD STAFF suddenly has the Chancellor Hall without UBD informing you the relevant parties involved appropriately.

I am so sorry to hear about what have happen to the booking at UBD Chancellor Hall. If this hall is meant for the public to use, so advance booking is necessary. Doesn’t mean if you work at UBD, you have the first priority and cancelled someone’s wedding reception? To that UBD person who simply cancelled off someone’s wedding reception, if you know that your daughter is going to get married in August 2008, why didn’t you book earlier? Do you know the concept of First Come First Serve? I am sure you are an “Educated” person to be able to work in UBD and that doesn’t mean you have the power to do anything including ruin someone’s wedding? Did you ever take consideration if that happen to your daughter’s wedding!!

Hi Nadia,
firstly, i’m so sorry to hear regarding your friend’s problem. It is stressful enough to plan for the perfect wedding let alone having this kind of unnecessary and unwanted problem.
Anyway, I’ve not known anything about priority given to UBD staff. She need to check that out if (and only IF) UBD staff has the priority over public from the registrar.
It is much better to handle and resolve this personally and arrange to have a meeting with the registrar of UBD (not e-mail, not letter, not over the phone calls). And do bring the confirmation letter from UBD, her application letter to UBD as well as the date and time of when she met and received confirmation from VC.
Secondly, since she have said the VC has personally and verbally agreed that she should have the bookings, there is no such way others below him should not obey his orders. Therefore, again when she meet the registrar she should inform this to the registrar stating the VC has cleared the matter and given the booking to you (stating the date and time of the meeting). She might also want to ‘threaten’ him that if the matter is not resolve, she would have to lodge another arrangement and complaint to the VC.
I assume the person in charge is ‘penakut’ enough to make a decision and reject the other applicant because they are working in the same place (takut malu perhaps). Hence, if he has a strong reason to reject the other applicant, then he should have a reason to reject them (e.g. VC approval for your booking).
However, you should be prepare with Plan B. Try to look out for other places as well (e.g. hotel or dewan muhibah) and check for availability as plan b just in case your application do not get thru. Otherwise, you might end up with no place at all.
And to Siti, please stick to the topic. Allowance and other matters is not relevant. Criticising and ashamed of being in UBD is not the right attitude.

ive just read a comment by Nadia about UBD kill her friend’s wedding..urm, for me i agree with bibi mastika, lau pyh2 abt the C.hall, cari tmpat len lah lyke hotel cuz i bet the price is almost the same just the c.hall is a bit convenient sal got lotsa car park..

luan-luan jua urg UBD ani..walau pun tkenal dgn pangkat doktor..pangkat master..procedure tetap procedure..mun ganya utamakan staff disana..lain kali bagi notis..urg ramai nda kana suruh memakai chancelor hall atu staff saja boleh..

I agree with Angel, kalau dapat kahwin lah ditempat/dikampung sendiri. ani dapat mengeratkan dan memeriahkah lagi majlis perkahwinan sebab orang kampung datang membantu, menyusun kerusi meja dan sebagainya. Bagi yang ber Usin bnyak atu mana saja tah, di hotel kah or UBD..tpi fikir sja jangan kana ambil booking biskita atu, nanti frust dan komplen lagi arah website ani. Yang lebih baik kahwin itu ala kadar sja inda membebankan dari segi kewangan.. jangan nanti cereta P-ramlie-seniman bujang lapuk, anak dah ramai Hutang belum habis terbayar.. huhu…

Ok, to those yang inda paham bahasa english…. sila baca diatas, esp. adika, dari paragraph atu, sudah lai usulnya bestpren si nadia atu bermuzakarah ke ubd, jumpa registrar and VC and even org estet and mr.eca officer. So dont think ia atu inda berani, that\’s why she got it, inda ia mengalah mempertahankan first come first serve rule, mun namanya 15 bln membooking dah. What I heard, they even met the PROPER AUTHORITIES regarding the matter (i.e. ACB and ADVOCATES). Siapa tahan mun kan malar meng-amalkan NEPOTISM and CROYNISM. Pikir nya orang inda tahu kali yang rupanya this wasn\’t the first time it happen pasal Chancellor Hall ani. Kasian ku mendangar yang orang-orang yang kana kick sebelum ani, ramai rupanya….. Ani I guess barutah kan membuka mata sesiapa yang berkenaan. I read thoroughly again, UBD was just a title for this whole cerita to catch people\’s attention, but actually si Nadia clearly have said the people involved (i.e. Registrar & ECA officer), so kakitangan UBD yang lain yang inda sangkut-paut - jangantah terasa…. lain lah kalau kamu atu kengkawan nya atau saudara-mara nya, u have the rights to be mad BUT all of this would not have happen if THE REGISTRAR and ECA OFFICER didnt kacau and kicked the other rightful person that have booked awal-awal. Comments on kawin kampung, Im talking in general ni ah, yes true for traditions, some people masih meng-amalkan, thats their rights, but some people yang ada rezeki labih dan kan mau menyenangkan/menselesakan sanak-saudara, orang mau jua di hotel or any dewan. So it depends on the situation…. kitani inda dapat mem-blame or memaksa anyone to buat di kampong or any other place…… kalau kana invite, datanglah…… biartia dimana pebaik, sukahati orang atu lah dimana ia buat, they have their own reasons, walaupun orang atu berhutang sana sini, janji ia sanggup!!! Hehe.

aku nda berani kan kata sapa salah dsini sebab nda tedagar 2 pihak, kalau banar cam yang cnadia cakap atu, memang UBD perlu disalahkan, tapi tindakan boleh di ambil dengan cara yang betul, jagan hantam koromo saja. Brunei sudah ada jabatan pengurusan untuk membuat aduan. Kalau banar ada bukti surat menyurat, buat aduan arah jabatan pengurusan, dorang nanti kan mengambil tindakkan sewajar nya..

It’s a real pity for this Couple to be. But that’s the reality in this uneven World of Living. It’s true to an adage that” IT’S NOT WHAT U KNOW, BUT WHOM U KNOW” which does bring more bearing to your life. Human are created to be the same by his creator, D’Almighty GOD.
But man re-created thing to their benefit and desire, meaning which the lesser one will have to struggles for their gain. So that what happen here, obviously to be seen and heard by all.
Anyway, be a Man of yourself and reset everything back to normal and resume back with the planning. Establish yourself a footing with a grace and feeling, that probably you don’t have to stage it there but looking for something and more fantastic place and location
where your families and friends can have an access to your happiest ocassion of your lifetime to the maximum of their feeling, right to their heart and mind.
Anyway, it might not be in a place of a well known such as the UBD or anything like that, but there is not much of a difference if you go somewhere else and prove to them that it will be more grandiest and splendour with the money well spend.
Proved to them that you are not going to see the end of the World by being deny a place like that of UBD. Obviously it’s not an easy decision, but a decision made will be the one that is with a justifying fact that you’re a real man with a destiny.
Conclusively, you knows the best for yourself and my parting words is that, none of this is bad for you, it’s just a blessing in disguise.Believed me, it will not stop from many more serious problem to come into your way in the future, but that will let you sail smoothly in the choppy sea and charting your destination, safely to the Port of Hope and Reality.

Sorry to hear about that. Perhaps, the Ubdian staff is from the majority staff live and from and ur fren is frm bandar. They have monopolised UBD nowadays from students to staff and to officers.
