Recreate the ancient wonders of Kg ayer
December 26, 2009 – 3:23 pmWith regard to the news entitled “Kg Ayer Cultural Centre A Hit With Domestic Tourists” I believe more landmarks needs to be made in Kg ayer.
If u read history books on kg ayer, you will read about the splendour of foreign envoys being welcomed by to the royal court / balai singah sana. There were even sketches on how the balai raya looks like on the water village by early european sailors. I think it would be a wonderful addition to Kg ayer by building a replica of the old Kampung ayer palace-balai singah sana, the architecture, layout of rooms, and exhibit how the king live and work in the old golden days.
Also central market!. A nucleus/concentration of market/s (wet & dry) should be allocate in every mukim or one very strategic location. Not just the villagers getting the benefit of convenience buyin traditional snacks & fresh groceries, tourist could also come and see the livelihood of kg ayer inhibatants. Traditional padian boats could also be at the market and At high tides tourists could possibly try riding them complete with padian hats!.
Lets return Kg ayer glory as a place of residence, commerce and rich history.

The kg. Ayer must be approve by the UNESCO coz’ it is one of the world heritage, other thing, kg. Ayer has been established 400 years ago. So kalau ada pihak2 brwajib, ambil kira th, huhu. Korea, Malaysia udh ada d iktiraf ulh UNESCO, Brunei bila lgi?

i fully support that ideas..n till now i really do miss my old place. i used to live in kg ayer. but then have to move out due to the growing number of families living together. n then a year after that, there was big fire which have affected 3-4 kampongs at tht time (im sure everyone remember this event..). n after that the affected families were not allowed to rebuild their houses at the same place n instead they were given new house at kg bolkiah.. i was small at that time n really sad that we could never live at our old place which have lots of memories there.. when i came back to that place some 10-12 years ago, nothing to see except trees have taken the place. but im not sure what happen to that place right now. last time i heard, a community hall is gonna build there but im not sure if it’s true or not. if the place still left unattended, i would recommend that it will be a perfect and strategic location to build replica of the old Kampung ayer palace-balai singah sana. n also the place is located at the heart of kg ayer where the area is surrounded by other kampongs such as kg peramu, kg saba, kg lurong sikuna, kg setia pahlawan.. from there, tourists could continue their journey to other kampongs like kg sungai kebun by walking… hope that district dept n bsb municipal booard read our comments here n do some efforts in order to make kg ayer “alive” just like 400 years ago when the englishmen first came to brunei, just like what antonio pigafetta have written about brunei’s kg ayer… lets us make the journalisms continue writing on brunei again…

I SOOOO agree with your post. I was thinking of the same thing the other day. Expand the cultural center by building replica of kampong ayer, which can be used as part of center. Inside the replica will show the way of life of the people- just like the one we have in museum. And to move around this place, tourist need to use boat (row-not using engine) , a kind of padian would be nice too. They can buy drinks on their ride.
Kampong Ayer can offer great opportunities.
