Celebrating innovated festivals What is the shar’i ruling on celebrating festivals such as the birthday of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), children’s birthdays, Mother’s Day, Tree Week and national holidays? Firstly: ‘Eid (festival) is the name given to something which returns ya’ood , and is used to describe gatherings which happen repeatedly, on a yearly, monthly or weekly basis, etc. So an ‘eid includes a number of things, such as a day which comes regularly, e.g., ‘Eid al-Fitr and Friday; gatherings on that day; and actions such as acts of worship and customs which are done on that day. Secondly: any of these things which are intended as rituals or acts of worship aimed at drawing closer to Allaah or glorifying Him in order to earn reward, or which involve imitating the people of Jaahiliyyah or any other groups of kaafirs, is a prohibited bid’ah, an innovation which comes under the general meaning of the hadeeth: “Whoever ......

"I am willing to give up everything", said the prince to the master. "Please accept me as your disciple." "How does a man choose his path?" asked the master. "Through sacrifice," answered the prince. "A path which demands sacrifice, is a true path." The master bumped into some shelves. A precious vase fell, and the prince threw himself down in order to grab hold of it. He fell badly and broke his arm, but managed to save the vase. "What is the greater sacrifice: to watch the vase smash, or break one's arm in order to save it?" asked the master. "I do not know," said the prince. "Then how can you guide your choice for sacrifice? The true path is chosen by our ability to love it, not to suffer for it." In the news we see " good" coverage and positivity. However, what the public does not know is that behind closed doors most of the delegates are very much disappointed and frustrated with our very own Brunei. Main reasons being racism, unprofessionalism and above all the incapability of handling the simple mode of transportation (compromising of very import ppl: tourist agents, minister representatives & VIP). Missed flights and meetings have been a troublesome issue for the past few days. There is always problem with transportation and the unprofessionalism of the related parties. Liasons and ushers are not to be blame but the management itself and the parties involve in arranging the mode of transportation. only to be dealt with curses and remarks by locals saying "better off not to come to Brunei at all!" "go back to your country and never come back!" Such negativity is very much destructive in Brunei's reputation ......

A boy was watching his grandmother write a letter. At one point, he asked: 'Are you writing a story about what we've done? Is it a story about me?' His grandmother stopped writing her letter and said to her grandson: 'I am writing about you, actually, but more important than the words is the pencil I'm using. I hope you will be like this pencil when you grow up.' Intrigued, the boy looked at the pencil. It didn't seem very special. 'But it's just like any pencil I've ever seen!' 'That depends on how you look at things. It has five qualities which, if you manage to hang on to them, will make you a person who is always at peace with the world. 'First quality: you are capable of great things, but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps. We call that hand God, and He always guides us according to His will. 'Second quality: now and then, I have to stop writing and use a sharpener. That makes the pencil suffer a little, but afterwards, he's much sharper. So you, too, must learn to bear certain pains and sorrows, because they will make you a better person. 'Third quality: the pencil always allows us to use an eraser to rub out any mistakes. This means that correcting something we did is not necessarily a bad thing; it helps to keep us on the road to justice. 'Fourth quality: what really matters in a pencil is not its wooden exterior, but the graphite inside. So always pay attention to what is happening inside you. 'Finally, the pencil's fifth quality: it always leaves a mark. In just the same way, you should know that everything you do in life will leave a mark, so try to be conscious of that in your every action.' Paulo Coelho.,1998-2005.Like ......

I wonder..our government always do campaigns on how to attract tourists to our country..many things have been done.Build mall, recreation park at beach and so on but why not renew Jerudong Park? could add more interesting new games. Jerudong Park used to be the best place to go with family during holiday or for any occasions..when i was 9.but now? (i am 21 years old) Jerudong park become the creepiest place.dull. our government could ask for entry payment (ticket) but of course with reasonable cost.Like outside country eg. Malaysia (genting) no matter how much it cost still most of Bruneian willing to pay to have fun there. But why not to have fun in our own country? like the usual condition outside countries used.."the ticket price for local is lower than tourists' ticket" Brunei could go far.. ...

Why did MOE put Religious studies as an optional subject in the first place? Is this what you call a better education system? His Majesty was very alert enough to realise this issue. Thank you to His Majesty our Sultan. Other than that, I just want to express my opinion regarding music. There are some private music schools in this country. Some pupils can't afford to enroll themselves in these music schools. Maybe it's still a wise idea to still continue music in the education system rather than just stopping it abruptly. This means all children can learn music. Music and Islam can be linked too. There are nasyid choir competitions praising Allah the Almighty and Prophet Muhammed held every year in school..not to mention, hadrah too. Apart from learning the piano, guitar, xylophone, flute and all basic instruments, students/pupils can also learn the instruments which are allowed in islam like the ......

by: Adam Khan, , Self-Help Stuff That Works In 1982 Steven Callahan was crossing the Atlantic alone in his sailboat when it struck something and sank. He was out of the shipping lanes and floating in a life raft, alone. His supplies were few. His chances were small. Yet when three fishermen found him seventy-six days later (the longest anyone has survived a shipwreck on a life raft alone), he was alive -- much skinnier than he was when he started, but alive. His account of how he survived is fascinating. His ingenuity -- how he managed to catch fish, how he fixed his solar still (evaporates sea water to make fresh) -- is very interesting. But the thing that caught my eye was how he managed to keep himself going when all hope seemed lost, when there seemed no point in continuing the struggle, when he was suffering greatly, when his life ......

I think this is the time to "really" accept the fact that Bruneians are in a big financial mess. ALL Bruneians have loans. Those without loans are special cases. It is not enough to point fingers and say you did this to yourself. That is just stating the obvious and we know the problem will not go away. A few months down the road, the same issue will come up again. Education, awareness, etc. will only affect the future but will not solve the problem at hand. Despite agreeing to what the government is doing to help Bruneians to get out of this vicious cycle there should be alternative solutions provided for Bruneians to choose from. Please dont stop only at curbing future problems but provide solution(s) for existing problems. True, the new directive on credit cards will lessen the issuance of credit cards in the future and "solve" the current problem ......

I have to agree and disagree with some of the comments that have been posted here over time. However.. Let's just look at the pros and cons first before making judgment. Pros(Outsider's View) Cons(My View) 1.Outsider's view: You get to see the world. My view: Not entirely true. It depends on where the airline flies to and how long the crew gets to spend in that specific place. Usually not more than 24hrs. And that time is spent getting the much needed rest. Gone are the days of long layovers. 2.Outsider's view: Huge salary. My view: I beg to differ. With the economic situation now and with the tightening of belts of every airline, everything is being cut down. From allowances to the standard of hotels. And with basic necessities becoming more expensive by day, cutting allowances does not help one bit. It is worse when you have a family to feed and ......
